"That is the very reason liberals won't get elected."

Eh??????

What does that statement of yours have to do with my observation that Wayne seemed (IMO) to be 'underestimating the power of a well-organized modern Authoritarian State'?

I believe the evidence is fairly strong that for DECADES now, under administrations and Congresses representing BOTH BRANCHES of the Republi-crats, the powers and rights of the central State have been steadily advanced (resulting, of course, in the diminution of the individual's rights vs. the State).

The slippery slope leads toward ever greater Authoritarianism, and an ever more subservient and compliant individual.

Re: "There was an experiment by a professor many years ago where they took a group of group of liberals to act as Jail Guards/Corrections Officers etc. Unexpectedly it resulted in the most outragious behavior by the "liberals". I will attempt to find it. It occurred in the early 70s and may not be on the net."

No need, Tide.

I'm quite familiar with the experiment, I studied it in college.

(PS --- the experiment was NOT designed to make any such conclusions of the sort you seem to be implying... for example that 'liberals' are more inclined to Authoritarianism and sadism then 'conservatives', or any other political group, are. It simply was not structured to be able to make any such political comparisons possible. The study's authors used a 'grab bag' of college students in social sciences, criminology, etc., for their experimental group... no filtering or controlling for political bias was part of the study. Admittedly, the grab-bag of subjects they worked with [occuring in the early seventies, as it did] included many supposedly social liberals [along with every other major psychological grouping I suppose] but, since none of these factors were controlled for... it would be difficult to say any more then that the results were supposed to be applicable to humans in general, and young adult humans in particular... in that time and place in the United States.)
