What is really interesting is how language diversified from what was (presumably) common. Although some tribes such as the Apache and Navaho were quite similar and could understand one another--many others were as different as Chinese and English. As there were many more than 70 tribes...one presumes that at least some of the languages were changed dramatically from the original. Then again--14,000 years ago the language was rudimentary and could therefore take several paths...
