the Israeli/Pal conflict is the dress rehearsal for everything. IMO, not true. Consider India/Pakistan/Kashmir. Consider Indonesia/East Timor. Consider China/Tibet.

I never set a standard. You'll need to take that up with someone who has. I expect atrocities to happen, because I expect barbarity in war- that is after all, what it's all about; war is by definition barbarous, the killing of other humans, and the infliction of injuries- what could be more barbarous? War is the failure of civilized (or uncivilized) men to use civilized means. You will need to take up the standards thing with someone who thinks it is relevant.
