Could you manage to put "some" in front of things? I'm sure some conservatives think liberals are stupid (en masse), and some liberals think conservatives are stupid (en masse), but most people probably aren't quite so prejudiced. I've never seen any evidence that the majority of people feel that way. Do you have some evidence that this is majority thought, or is this just a symptom of the polarized ends of the political spectrum?

As you may be able to tell, I'm tired of seeing things exaggerated and exacerbated. I'm tired of stupid generalizations about liberals, and I'm equally tired of stupid generalizations about conservatives. I'd like to see a lot more attention paid to nuance, and individual cases, because quite frankly the generalization game (as regards groups of people) is just making things stupid and nasty, and I think I can back that up with numerous examples from SI, from Scream Radio (left or right), and from just about anywhere else.

Maybe you need to be conservative to see it.

You see, this is the problem. I don't see it. I have never gotten the slightest sense that anyone thought I was dumb for my perspective. Misguided, maybe, but not dumb. Being thought dumb is pretty much outside my experience.

and liberals thought conservatives were mean.

Now that's another matter. Yes, I do recognize that liberals think conservatives are mean.

It used to be that conservatives thought liberals were stupid

Not so much stupid (thick) as airheaded.

Sorry, I just don't see liberals thinking conservatives are dumb, other than as specified. Bush being thought dumb is particular to him as an individual, not a function of his political philosophy.

Re your search, did you read any of that? I only looked at the first page. Only found one statement that supported your assessment, and that statement was just one guy's assessment of what he, a conservative, perceived. There was much more about conservatives thinking liberals stupid.

[deleted] As soon as I posted, I saw that the next line in your post made the same point I was going to make, which is that it used to be that conservatives thought libs stupid, and libs thought conservatives merely evil. But now conservatives are evil and stupid, especially when it comes to Dubya -- a sentiment hilariously sent up not long ago by Scott Ott (of ScrappleFace):

British Poll: Bush is 'Stupid Evil Genius'
by Scott Ott

(2003-11-16) -- A new survey of Britons indicates that a majority believes that U.S. President George Bush is a "stupid evil genius."

"The results indicate that Brits don't think Bush is smart enough to put his right boot on his right foot," said a spokesman for the polling company. "And he's so clever that he tricked the entire U.N. Security Council into thinking Saddam Hussein was a brutal dictator who sponsored terror. He's a stupid evil genius."

According to the poll, people in the United Kingdom now fear that "Mr. Bush will accidentally trick Prime Minister Tony Blair into doing something even more ingeniously moronic in Iraq."
