I don't think first hand of Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo is necessary to decide what one thinks. We have the photos, and the trials, we have the human rights organizations like the International Red Cross which visits the prisoners, and now we have the lawyers trying to get into Guantanamo to represent the detainees there. We have the reports of detainees who have been released, and then of course there is also the foreign press, for yet another interesting view.

If first hand knowledge were necessary, then the only Americans who could have an opinion would be the military, as well as the government that deploys them, and I certainly would not want either of those entities simply telling me what reality is. Would you?
