Carter is the BEST ex-president in history. Bar none. He has done more to help the world than any ex-president. Though Clinton is trying to do the same now. And even has Bush Sr. doing good deeds (finally). Selfless deeds which help the needy. That's what it's all about.

Bush has never done jack to help anyone but himself and his cronies.

Carter did have a terrible crisis in the ME, but read your history books. Iran and the Shah were in big trouble before Carter came in. Also, the enormous Vietnam War debt had crippled our economy and interest rates were soaring. Carter was not a successful president but he inherited the worst kind of situation. Also, if his Iran rescue mission had succeeded, history would teat him much differently. One sandstorm did it to him. Although it's also possible the rescue mission was sabotaged by the rightwing. Same as the October Surprise.
