Only problem with that is many, if not most, of the members of both Houses are privately wealthy....so they all have a good deal of income before they get to Congress...

Some born with it, like Kennedy, and some marry into it, like Kerry. Many are lawyers. Wonder if there is a breakdown for the Congress as to who tries to live on the salary the Government pays them, and how many have private income already. AND, how many of them have already sheltered the majority of income so that it comes from a Trust, etc.....

Also, I don't know if the Congress has to pay tax on their benefits...my guess is they don't have to count it as income... Benefits like medical, dental, limos, life ins, pensions, trips, etc etc....
