J.P. Morgan Securities reiterated an "overweight" rating on Altera (nasdaq: ALTR - news - people ), citing continued share gains from low-end programmable logic devices such as the Cyclone and MAX families in the consumer market. Yesterday, Altera raised its second-quarter revenue guidance to the high end of its prior guidance of a 4% to 5% sequential increase. J.P. Morgan maintained its calendar 2005 earnings-per-share estimate for Altera of 75 cents on revenue of $1.14 billion, and the 2006 earnings estimate of $1.00 per share on revenue of $1.37 billion. Altera stated its Cyclone 2 and MAX 2 product lines are both ramping strongly along with Stratix 2. The company also said it expects a tax benefit of $15.0 million to $20.0 million in the second quarter to be slightly more than offset by a tax charge of $21.0 million.
