I agree, Chris Constitine is an example. Why hasn't he been ban yet?

It appears that one poster has already been banned for pointing to a news story that contradicts an opinion advanced by the thread monitor. It seems to me that that is not a good sign.

But, as you point out, it is fairly typical SI behavior.

Moderators have absolute power to ban whomever they wish to for any or no reason. And we know the result of absolute power, don't we? However well intentioned people SI thread moderators start out, and I think many have indeed started out with the best intentions, in the end it is virtually inevitable that even the most well meant statement such as "Civil discussion and thoughtful analysis are welcome" fall prey to personal dislikes.

Whether that happened in the case of Brumar89 we won't know unless the moderator explains why the ban was imposed, for what post(s), and the specific problem with the post(s). But the history of SI moderating and banning isn't encouraging.

We will see how it works here.

Well, I can't speak for Dale, but I think Brumar would have been wise to post the article and let it speak for itself. Adding OK. Stuff your fingers in your ears - tell yourself the world hates Bush just like I do, pat yourself on the back and maintain your pose as a humanitarian and moderate. Meanwhile democracy marches on without you seems a tad belligerent.

Instead of allowing the article to be absorbed on its merits, and rebutted or agreed with depending on one's willingness to consider and maybe even buy into the idealism and hope, even a little of it, you get an unnecessary postscript about what a dumbass you are for not agreeing with Bush. Again.

I often agree with Brumar and am sorry he was banned, but geeeez, figure it out, guys.

And you can follow me anywhere you like.
