When I was very young I got 50 cents a week allowance, always a 50 cent piece. My great aunt lived with us and she sewed a lot. The plastic thing her thread came in was exactly the size of a 50 cent piece, and I used them to store my allowance. At the end of the year I would have 52 50 cent pieces. ie I never spent my allowance except when I finally wanted a 3 spd. bike and bought it myself with my own money. Anyhow, I also got 25 cents a day for lunch money. I would only spend 3 cents of it daily for one dinner roll. Then when I came home from school my Aunt would fix my lunch, so thats how I always had spending money. I can still remember opening my first savings account with a years worth of my allowance. After that every month I took my passbook down, made my deposit and had them post the interest. Pretty weird for a young boy, eh? jdn
