I do think that some of it is rationalizing but the rest of it is pure, unadulterated greed and bullying. Bush et al are happy to have perpetual and highly profitable war. They are happy to see middle class families overwhelmed by medical costs and plunged into indentured servitude to credit card companies and hospital chains. They are happy to see the volunteer army ground down into dust requiring the rise of a mercenary army. They are happy to see solid middle class jobs go overseas and unions decline in numbers. IMO, Republicans are all about hating and beating up on others for their personal profit. Just a few minutes of Hannity or Limbaugh or Coulter prove this. They really do dislike the vast majority of people and, IMO, they really don't like themselves much either.
