Casinos can run a legal game. They don't have to cheat to create thousands of poor people who try and beat their odds. As Laz says if your count cards in their blackjack games they can and do make you leave if you win enough playing fair.
Casinos are dirty dogs even if I gamble there at times.

Laz, When in doubt, please refer to rule #1 and rule #2 in a previous PM from me to you. <g> - Holly

Laz, How many times have we had this conversation? Seems like about the same number of times we have had the smoking conversation. <g> - Holly

Laz, "As to the one such occasion she mentions, the laws of probability DO allow for such things AND STILL ALLOW THE HOUSE TO WIN A RIGGED GAME! Or does Holly believe those palaces in Vegas were built to make HER rich?"
You were witness to only ONE win. For the many other wins, you have only my word that I win more than I lose. Were that not the case, I wouldn't play.

"I have asked Holly if she has kept complete and careful track of her winnings and losings. She declines to answer. I let that speak for itself."
The only thing that says is that I decline to divulge details. <g> - Holly

I believe a gov't is far better off getting its revenues from clean rather than dirty sources

My understanding is that casinos provide entertainment, and there is nothing "dirty" about that. Just like when you go to a spa, you leave the place quite a bit lighter in cash, but more euphoric. Or at least pampered and entertained.

I say we restart the Indian wars and win this time

Is it going to be blankets with chickenpox again?

the laws of probability DO allow for such things AND STILL ALLOW THE HOUSE TO WIN A RIGGED GAME! Or does Holly believe those palaces in Vegas were built to make HER rich?

I totally agree with you. Casinos will not make her rich, the game is rigged, and she should not expect to win over the long term.

However, if she knows all that and hence can see gambling as an expensive hobby that is interesting/exciting to her, what else is there to say?

At least, you can't say her gambling harms YOU (like with cigarettes) because there is no such thing as "passive gambling" :-)))
