Jurgis, The geography of Europe and the US as far as population density is a huge difference. Also, I always find tax revenue to be a matter of how - not how much. Friends and I in different states compare things like real estate taxes. If one is significantly different I find that a low tax in one place is balanced by a high tax in another.

If there were to be a $ tax on gasoline and it would be used to offset another tax - an idea I actually sorta support - the tax burden would be the same - but the item that should be consumed less - would be.
