I don't think Iraq would become a second Aghanistan. Too much oil. I think if the US left in a month, Iraq would separate into a few countries. Probably Kurdistan, which would be a nice place, Shiastan, which would be pretty dodgy, and Sunniastan, where nobody would want to live.

Consequences of that split to the US - not much.


After a two year mission a few thousand casualties, we would then leave iraq divided and unstable, with iran influence greatly enhanced in the region and over 60% of the former country, the north free to fuel kurd rebels in southern turkey and the middle of the country an open invitation to every nut case muslim extremist hater of western culture in the world...what an amazing success story...this from a country that was being held under control by the iron fist of a defanged tinpot dictator...but according to you this would represent no consequence to America's interests or future.
