I've said repeatedly its quite disturbing that the US has never explained (as far as I know) what criterion was used in determining whether a person captured in Afghanistan went to Gitmo, to an Afghan jail, was extradited to their home country or was simply released. If all the Gitmo detainees were most definitely Al Queda, you'd figure the US would at least provide that level of detail.

My gues is that anybody fighting the US / Afghan liberation forces would tend to be labeled Taliban if Afghan, and generally sent to Afghan jails. Those not Afghan (fighting with guns) are Al Qaeda and they would tend to be sent to Guantanamo.
