John -
Do your Boeing friends think that the A380 can reach sales in the 40-80 range for the next 20 years?
You are right, the capital cost subsidy for the development costs is a huge part of the advantage for Airbus.

<Its an employment project.>

Airbus representatives name as many or more subsidies for Boeing than US representatives claim for Airbus.

<And the EUro's should be careful of playing the Military card - Airbus now makes military transports and is competing internationally with them>

Except when Airbus is excluded from selling a tanker to the US Airforce.

Airbus =s Concorde? US bowed out then. Remember the SST?
PS i used to watch the Concorde on take offs and landings at JFK. Was beautiful to watch. But the economics were bad then for concorde and my guess is that Airbus will largely flop as well. Point to point flights are what folks want, at least in the US that is. I would hate to have to travel to paris so i could then hop a flight to Barcelona.
