Tim, As I have stated in previous posts, which are scattered about here and there on various SI threads, the video poker machines are not altogether random in their dealings and will deal consistent hands rarely to never seen in a live poker game. One trick is to watch which cards a machine tends to throw and play to those cards or combinations.

I go for small, conservative wins and play to the royal only when it is the only logical play to make or if I am dealt at least three or four cards to the royal. One royal I got was something of a miracle; I had been dealt the ten and the queen of clubs at opposite ends of the hand (I think it's called gate posts in the vernacular).

I always play the triple-play machines, the ones that deal three hands instead of just one. I do not play the five- or ten-play machines. Not only do they eat one's capital very rapidly (I ALWAYS play max coins), it is just too hard to keep track of which cards those machines are favoring.

Most machines are set to pay at least something in the first few plays. If it doesn't it's best to try another machine. I have a theory that a machine "knows" when it has been given fresh money. With this in mind, I cash out periodically and give the machine its fresh money after allowing it to "rest" for a few minutes. Disclaimer: This does not work consistently but does seem to work often enough to continue the practice.

when the machine eats money as fast as you can feed it in, you will be in better shape if you call it quits and go to the bar and buy your drinks. I know I have had more than a few of those $40 bloody marys. <g> - Holly
