Joe,

after letting millions of immigrants in and giving one million of them Swedish passports thus increasing the total pop from 8 to 9 mil (!), the liberal democrazy authorities up there finally got the message and started work on changing that. Being a little bit too late they are sure to get the boot next year though.
One of the latest and most draconic requirements for obtaining a Swedish passport - still subject to a hot debate between the lefties - goes like this: would it be fair to require a basic command of Swedish to qualify for a Swedish passport?...

Sure, >85% of those immigrants are the welfare type.

Hi Joe,

can't agree with you on this one. Immigration is known to be a very important factor in keeping a country from stagnating and for solving it's welfare problems. When countries get an old people bubble, they need new younger blood to come into the country to bolster the countries finances in the form of taxes on labor.

That is why the U.S. has done so well. We have had a steady influx of immigrants. Now immigration has to be handled properly. You have to minimize illegals and you have to ensure taxation occurs and collection rates are high. You have to try your best to get a good mix of immigrants from lot's of different cultures and countries, as well as educational backgrounds and skill levels.

So it is not as simple as opening the borders, but immigration can indeed help solve an aging population and low birth rate problem in a country.

Joe, I just saw a report on Sweden, and apparently some of the geniuses think that the way to overcome the future problems caused by low birth rates, aging of society, and high social spending is by increasing immigration.

Immigration solves two out of those three problems. The last problem is what prevents immigration from being a practical, affordable solution.

Gee, I guess it will be a problem if the immigrants to Sweden are those of the welfare type?

Its a good thing Americans don't share your attitude or you would be still cooling your butt in Slovakia; that is unless you were a millionaire when you emigrated to the US. Were your Joe.....a rich guy when you came to this country?
