Why would they knowingly welcome the speed up joy ride to chaos?

Is it possible they merely took the path of least resistance? We all know the truth is unpopular.

Re: Why would they knowingly welcome the speed up joy ride to chaos?

The phenomenon you are lookiing at is called "kicking the can down the road".

Basically, all politicians are spineless poll followers. Every politician alive today remembers the fate of Jimmy Carter after he leveled with the American public about the future of "cheap oil", as in, there ain't gonna be any after a while.

This candor so alienated the public, that this honesty, along with the dishonesty of the October Surprise, was enough to destroy the chances of the Democrats at the White House for 12 long and criminal years of increased militarism and decreased culpability in the White House. Sort of a precursor for the wholesale criminality of today's GOP leadership.
