<<Especially pants.>>

Back when I sold suits the difference between the coat size and the pant size was called drop. Athletic fit was 8", regular was 6" and portly was 2". I had a customer who always wanted a 42 athletic. A 40 coat fit him like a bag on a rooster but it was "tight in the shoulders" even though his shoulders were no wider than his ears. I'd find a 42 portly that had two pair of pants and switch a pair of pants with a 46 portly. 44 pants with a 42 fat coat but I called it athletic.
