You say that... but I feel pretty confident that you are wrong... missing the bigger picture. Firstly, there is very little Intelligence value to be had in GITMO anymore --- the detainees are to far gone in time and distance from the action to have real Intelligence value anymore. So have said our most experienced interrogators, spy hands, etc., both in the Pentagon and at Langley. There is no reason that nice quick military trials (all Geneva truly requires of us) couldn't adjudicate and demarcate between POWS (to be maintained in camps for the duration of the conflict) and 'illegal combatants' who would not be afforded the protections of POW status.... Meanwhile --- with very little to gain anymore by this 'thumb-you-nose-at-legalisms-and-civilization' attitude --- we stand to lose Big Time in the Wider World, lose hearts and minds, lose in our propaganda efforts... have them rebound futilely on us, and stir up the successfullness of our enemy's propaganda efforts, their fund raising and recruiting among a billion or so muslims and perhaps further. Nope... it's NOT 'being tough on our enemies'... Hell, it wouldn't be hard to think of a couple of hundred far more immediate and proximate enemies who we've been far easier on... and who pose far larger dangers to us at this point in time.
