Now I'd like to ask you, if those other are better at governing and have better economic models, why is it that the U.S. is the country that has attracted the most immigrants in the past and has the most wealth?

Immigration tracks economic conditions first and foremost. Immigration economically depressed regions of the world, from poor regions of Europe and Asia for example, has slowed to a trickle. Don't forget that the world has come through two world wars that left Europe and Asia in ruins, but had little physical effect on US soil.

This country was built on solid Christian values and many of them have been codified into our most venerable institutions. If we are straying recently, I'd say that it's because we have a President who is a fundamentalist and therefore believes he can do no wrong.

Consider your statement, the built in contraddiction revealts the very danger of the matter, a danger which you miss, but which seemed to be well understood by the men who wrote our constitution. These men knew first hand that through history religion has sought to impose itself on the civil affairs of nations....consider European history from which they and their ancestors came. Bush is an opportunist who takes advantage of religious fervor for political gain and seems oblivious to the near and long term consequencces.

Why is that important to you? To be honest, I certainly don't think in terms of who is best in the world like its a beauty contest. I am simply pointing out what we are doing wrong. Its called providing constructive criticism.

It's important to me, because I'm trying to see if your criticism is because you just hate the U.S. or if it is because you see another country doing it better and would like to present that as an alternative to the way we do it. Thank you for finally giving me examples. They are indeed countries that I think are doing something right as well. Now I'd like to ask you, if those other are better at governing and have better economic models, why is it that the U.S. is the country that has attracted the most immigrants in the past and has the most wealth?

Accusing me of hating America is simply a way for you to avoid thinking about what is happening to this country. I am well educated, experienced and competent with friends in both Europe and Australia who would like it very much if I moved to where they live. If I hated America, I would have left long ago.

My point is not to prove that we are the best, rather it's to point out that we have risen to great governmental, military, and economic power BECAUSE of our values, not because of our lack of them. This country was built on solid Christian values and many of them have been codified into our most venerable institutions. If we are straying recently,

If we are straying? If? Where is there an if in all of this? Either we have these values or not. If we have the values you claim, then we have strayed......no ands, ifs or buts about it.

I'd say that it's because we have a President who is a fundamentalist and therefore believes he can do no wrong.

We have a president and his cohorts who are bringing a whole new ideology to this country that is at odds with are old values. Do a search on neoconservatism. Get familiar with the program and then talk to me about whether we are straying or not.

And we have an ACLU and extreme left that is trying to turn this country into a blankly, secular nation devoid of any Christian identity.

I don't believe it.......whether we are too secular or not is the very least of our worries. Dang! Forget it.....our priorities are so far apart its hard to fathom we grew up in the same country.

I don't want Americans torturing innocent people to death and you're worried if XMAS will be banned this year.
