If we had a U.D.N., which held all the levers of power and wealth, then all the other countries would work to achieve Democratic and Human Rights certification, so they could become a part of it. Have you ever participated in an organization made up of a lot of different people? How about when you played basketball or dodgeball during phys. ed at school? There are X number of kids and usually, the gym teacher tells two of the best players to each pick a team. However, have you ever had the gym teacher pick two guys who were the worst players to be the captain of a team? I have. Why do you think the teacher chose to do it that way instead of the other way? But nowadays we let Cuba and Iran head up the Human Rights commission, as if they had anything of value to add to that. Look how hard China has worked to gain WTO ascension. Countries will work to reform their governments, economy, and human rights record, if there are benefits to be had as a part of the global community. If they can get all the benefits without the hard work, then they will do so. So what? What does that have to do with world peace? Is the UN only supposed to pick the biggest and best to lead? Is the UN supposed to pick only the US?Why do you think the Middle East is so screwed up? Ironically, it is their oil wealth that has ennabled the repressive leaders of that country to avoid reform for so many decades. It is their boon and their curse. It's possible that they are irreformable until their oil wealth runs out. But we can work with those other countries in the world that have no wealth other than the brain power of their people. Read the history of the ME for the past 150 years. Trust me when I tell you, its not just the oil that has screwed them up.
