Part Three:

by this time, the clouds had become rather dark and we are
hearing thunder in the distance. we pick up our pace a little
but still manage to see a few more things along the way.
mr. croc spots a Painted Turtle laying eggs in the side
of a Muskrat lodge mound.
pbase.com

we soon find ourselves walking in steadily increasing rain
with about a 45 minute walk ahead of us. one of the ubiquitous
deer of this section of forest, watches us from up ahead
(probably laughing if deer could laugh), as we attempt to
cover up my cameras and other gear as best as possible considering
that we hadn't bothered to bring along the camera bag. pbase.com

and yes, as is so often the case, the rain continued unabated
until we were just a couple of minutes away from our parked vehicle.

Bug Teachur,

I really do enjoy your stuff.

When I get a chance I'm gonna show my son your pics
and notes. I'm certain it will enlighten him.
Or at least generate one of those guttural "Way Cool" sounds.

When I clicked on your Ebony Jewelwing pics, somehow I was
able to guess which one was male and female without reading
the captions.

It is either that you hit the right angle to make one look
manly or feminine, or they actually are that way...

This one just looks more delicate and pretty:

(Not meant as a sexist sort of statement.)

Where as this one seems to say, "Hey bub, did you see that
cutie over there posing on those blades of grass?"
pbase.com

He seems a little bit stronger.

I know it probably just in my interpretation.
I'm curious how you really can tell the difference.

Are they cousins to the damsel fly?

-Clapper

P.S. I saw a few dragon flies while fishing at the creek the
other day. I thought they were early. Would they typically
still be in some sort of nymph stage?

I remember as a kid being so afraid of dragon flies. So silly
to think they bit and breathed fire... <g> <ng>

P.P.S. Another random thought...
Whenever I see dragon flies now I think of this song by
Ziggy Marley from his CD that came out last year.

Dragonfly

everybody's worried about time
but i just keep that shit off my mind
people living on twenty four hour clocks
but we're on a ride that never stops

hey mister bee the world change but you remain the same
and i wonder how you'll survive with the environment going down the drain
hey miss dragonfly i see you look at me with your beautiful eyes
you must be wondering what type of creature am i

a dog looked at me and said ziggy why can't we trust man
puss and me get together why can't you all just understand
an old tree stood there silently listening to every word we said
as a tear fell he cried what type of creature is man

i said hey mister tree the world change but you remain the same
and i wonder how you survive with the environment going down the drain
hey miss butterfly I see you look at me with your beautiful eyes
you must be wondering what kind of creature am i
you must be wondering what kind of creature am i

everybody's worried about time
but i just keep that shit off my mind
people living on twenty four hour clocks
but we're on a ride yes we're on a ride we're on a ride that never stops

hey mister bee the world change but you remain the same
and i hope you'll survive with the environment going down the drain
