Both the Greeks & the Romans helped advance legal practices, but there is a lot of history before them. The Romans also tolerated some rather distasteful behavior, which no doubt Christianity helped along to the dustbin of history. IMO, this in no way encourages me to clamor for the return of said practices. I have no problem in giving credit where due, and religious roots for improved behavior is one example of that.
