How do they manage to get only 12 miles per gallon ? Do they drag an anchor ? I could see getting only 15 or 17 mpg, but unless it weighs 4000 + pounds, you have to work at it to get mileage that bad....

The 1600 model gets 8.3 l /100km or 28 mpg .... at a steady 90 kph or 43 mph.

Gross weight is 990 Kg, about 2200 lbs.

Engine compression is 7.8 : 1
Should be able to use 85 octane or less.

Since the car has the aeodynamics of a brick, 75 mph or 140 kph could easily drop to 15 mpg - maybe lower ?
