i remember relocating to Fairfax va when Mobil moved its headquarters from nyc. reason to be closer to washington and politics which at the time was at war with the oil industry. the purpose was to get to know your neighbors, perhaps by living next to senators, reps, military , etc etc. we could all get better understanding of our businesses. executives were to make themselves more readily available for public speaking to get the message out.
based on number of companies that moved to the Washington area since early 80's i think it may have been a good idea.

Those sites show chevron gave $2M to National Republic committies and $800K to Democratic committies vs exxonmobil giving $1.1M to Republican committies vs 167K to Democratic committies. Looks like chevron gave more to both parties committies which is where the big donations went.

Wonder where these leases lie in relation to those that are developed and being produced offshore CA now - santa ynez for example?
