Far what ever reason I have a distrusting feeling regarding Putin, mostly induced by the Yukos affair and his body language in public. It is obvious that he is after the "Robber Barons" of Russia but the way he did it was wrong IMHO especially Yukos and now the other natural resource companies.

BP did not need to come to Moscow to strike a "personal" deal - that's corruption and BP was a “to hot issue to handle” - it was not Yukos... so without choice Putin caved in.

As to Vilnius well this is not Russia it was taken over by Russians.

As to Ukraine even as many think about Ukraine and Russia as similar nations they are quite different going back hundreds of years including their language. If memory serves me right Stalin killed millions of Ukrainians before WWII only to be further decimated during WWII. Ukraine as the Baltic States deserved to be independent.

After all Russia still holds on vast territory east of the Urals which is not historic Russia. I think that Medieval Russian nation was the size of France. – not to mention the Volga Bulgars which were even smaller, even the last Tzar had dreams of expanding to the Indian Ocean
