MC, The reason, supposedly, that we got involved in VN, was because the north was considered to be leaning toward communism, and the south was supposed to be more democratic. There was some scuttle butt, that there was a lot of drug dealing in the south, and the conned us into getting into the war, but I seriously doubt that.

I'm sure you can find a website that will list the dead, and the wounded, Americans from that war. When you read it, you will realize what losing a war is. If we had conquered the whole area of VN, then it would have been a win because there was something to show for the sacrifices, but when a nation loses lives for nothing, it is a loss. Perhaps if you had ever been in the military, you would understand this concept. There are no ties in war.

IMO there are no differences between SVN or NVN. They are VN.

Two different states with two different governments.

I don't know how you keep score in something like this, but IMO we did not lose.

We didn't lose in the sense of being defeated in battle, or losing more soldiers than the enemy, but we failed to achieve our strategic objective, while the enemy did achieve theirs so in that sense we lost.
