Ish, Agreed! Those that smoke weed just want to get mellow, not go crazy on the hard stuff. There is more damage done to society by alcoholics than pot heads.

Maybe Ish and haqi....BUT because of work I do with some of the people, and having had the situation in a family member, I've had a lot of current education on the "what's and why's...", unfortunately. People just simply don't have any idea of how widespread the problems are, and the addiction process.

Marijuana IS a gateway drug for the 1 in 10 people who use it. Like alcohol, the majority of people who use it don't have the addiction process starting....if they use it sometimes, and not much, they will just feel the high. If they use marijuana or alcohol to extreme, they will just be "stupid" while they use it, and until it wears off....

The problem is that NO ONE knows yet who the 1 in 10 will be who become addicted. Most people don't set out to become addicted. It happens. And THEN the slippery slope begins... For not only that person, and his/her family and neighbors...BUT for the entire community.

Take a look at the majority of the crimes committed. I'll take a guess and will guess that more than 75% of the major crimes are committed by people who are addicted to drugs of one sort or another. Most are robberies, but there are those that very much more serious, as we all know....

I had NO idea that so many people have to deal with the problems attendant with addiction....Years ago, I thought that just "scruffy people" did that. Well, did I ever have a shock one day when I went to a loved ones' support group and saw my neighbor, who was a Doc, was there because his wife (a nurse) had tried to kill herself. She was addicted to both drugs and alcohol.

Until technology improves, none of us will know ahead of time who will get the addiction bullet.

<<and uses marijuana for a "gateway" drug to other much more serious drugs, like cocaine/crack, heroin, and homemade horrors like meth.>>

I'd bet most who get on crack and meth would anyway if they never touched weed.

Indeed, if marijuana were legal and available, some people who move on to crack and meth might well stay with marijuana for their highs. But as it is now, they've got to buy illegal drugs to get high, so might as well buy one as another.
