But then, its you who are in the defense industry so you must know that already. You almost never strike on blow that eliminates them completely and in short order, but you can weaken them to the point that they are ineffective and fade away, often eventually completely. The battle is as much political as military, esp. if you aren't contemplating genocide or "ethnic cleansing" in order to enforce your will. if there was most countries would junk their conventional forces and train bands of guerillas. Insurgencies are not trained in the same way armies are..........they develop helter skelter over time in response to an invasion. Insurgents will have different training, but they are trained in many cases. In a few cases they are actually well trained. Some of the Al-Qaeda types and some of the "former regime elements" are fairly well trained in Iraq. Many of the "insurgents" in Vietnam actually were trained NVA soldiers. American Special Forces and CIA operatives are trained to go in to enemy controlled territories and train the locals to effectively become insurgents on our side either as part of a covert effort or as part of our overt military effort against a foreign government. Some insurgents really don't have any training but they don't tend to perform as well. If suicide bombers get some training if the forces behind them are smart. all the predictions predictated by the domino theory, the very theory that manipulated Americans into sending troops into Vietnam.......proved to be false. Not so. Cambodia, and Laos fell to the communist in addition to South Vietnam. The insurgency is bigger than the soldiers we have over there. Got any evidence for that assertion? Even if it was, America soldiers have the ability to defeat a larger force, but there is no indication that your assertion is even close to true. Tim
