re: Frankly, I think the crisis is the paranoia in the heads of some of the GOP. More than one person who knew him has said that Nixon was extremely paranoid. I think he typlifies the genre. Nixon was weird, but surprisingly effective. He was about 90 degrees left of the current conservatives. He made the mistake of escalating the Vietnam war, but you have to give hime credit for ending it. He was sort of a Bush Sr., a pragmatist wrt international politics, but lost on domestic policy. John
