I don't see either of the two examples you mentioned as an idea, as in ideology. Both examples look to me like proposed compromises between the ideologues on both sides. If you want to say that a moderate is an advocate of compromise, fine, but that's not the same as believing in the substance of what one is advocating.

That's why I posed the question. I can't think of any good examples. The only belief I can find is a belief in moderation as a life-style, but even that is mostly pragmatic.
