That's kind of what I was trying to get at. What looks like moderate can just be an active logical decision making process on issues, separated in to their component parts. So rather than accepting a decision on a big clot of issues all glommed together, which either extreme might call one issue (like abortion, or stem cells, or guns or drugs or immigration or ANYTHING) you look at it in detail, and make your decisions critically on the small facts buried in the greater propaganda. Maybe that is all extremism is? A failure to break things down into small manageable issues? A towing of the undifferentiated macro line?
