I know that if someone's land doesn't have clear title, a free marketer would complain. Ditto illegal workers picking the apple crop in a field next door. Ditto illegal fertilizer running off onto neighboring properties. Ditto unsafe trucks transporting the apples on the road. Ditto an accounting scandal at a publicly held supermarket. Ditto paying too much for something because an illegal cartel fixed prices.

I find that many if not most "government intrusions" are services and protections actively desired by lots of people who enjoy complaining about the intrusion of government on the free market on ideological grounds.

It's like people who hate government spending on anything except what benefits them. Try to cut that and listen to them squeal about how unfair Washington is.
