Really. Since 1824, the first year where the public was allowed to vote in the Presidential Election, the largest percentage of the Popular Vote collected by any candidate was 61.05%, by Lyndon Johnson in 1964, which means that almost 2 out of 5 voters (or more) will always oppose the President, no matter his party or success. Anything close to 60% is nearing the absolute ceiling, so gaining a clear majority of the Popular Vote is very significant. Also, eighteen of our Presidential Elections were won by a candidate pulling less than 50% of the Popular Vote. That means it’s a very big deal to clear 50%! Was John Quincy Adams a President with authority? He took only 30.92% of the vote when he won in 1824! Was Abraham Lincoln a full-fledged President? He took less than 50% in 1860, when he was elected. Was Grover Cleveland a real President? He took less than 50% when he was elected. Was Woodrow Wilson a genuine President? He took less than 50% when he was elected. Was Harry Truman authorized to lead our nation? he took less than 50% when he was elected. Was John F. Kennedy a President with a mandate? He took less than 50% when he was elected, too. What about Bill Clinton? He didn’t reach 50% in either of his elections. Will the Democrats then decide he had no real authority? It’s simple. George W. Bush was the first candidate to take more than 50% of the Popular Vote in sixteen years, and his three-and-a-half-million vote margin is far greater than most Presidents ever enjoyed. And need I remind the Democrats, that over 59 million people voted for George W. Bush, the most in history. George W. Bush has a mandate all right. The Democrats have only delusion. As for humility, the Democrats did everything in their power to take this election, from lying about the President, comparing him to Hitler, forging documents to slander him, and trying to intimidate voters with thousands of lawyers sent to launch “pre-emptive” challenges to voters’ rights. It’s well past time for the Democrats to find their humility, and show the President the respect and cooperation he has more than earned. -- DJ Drummondpolipundit.com
