That relationship bears no resemblance to the US what so ever. And for the most part the majority population Indios are not in control of their own country, its wealth or its politics. Now I'm not saying that is a bad thing or being critical of the blancos, I'm just making an observation of the facts as they stand. I'm not accusing the blancos of racism either, I think it is more complicated than that. Places like Mexico and indeed all the third world has a very rigid class structure and those in the underclass tend to remain in the underclass. Its always been that way and will remain that way. I have lived in other third world places where essentially all the people belonged to the same racial group and it is the same as in Mexico in that there is a permanent underclass, even though the underclass is of exactly the same race as the ruling class. I'm not being critical of those folk either, its just the way of the world. As for the African Americans in Latin America (yikes, this cumbersome and unprecise PC terminology) you have all sorts of different relationships country by country. In Belize you have a Black ruling class that makes life rough on their Maya Indios, especially the illegals which are sneaking in from Guatemala. In the Dominican Republic the Hispanics mistreat the Blacks. In many countries there are no Blacks. In Nicaragua the mestizos and blancos mistreat the Mosquito Coast Indios. Too complicated for a blanket statement. Before I went and lived in some of these places I had considerable sympathy for the "ugly American" theory. After spending a number of years in the third world I have ZERO sympathy for the idea. It just ain't so. Slagle
