Have a nice break. ===this means we must all give up some of our freedoms so that we can be guaranteed most of our freedoms I agree with you on this point. Somehow freedom has come to mean doing anything that comes to mind but having no negative consequences for it. We have to come to terms with the fact that, in our reality, freedom is a relative term and while everyone is pretty much free to conduct himself any way he likes, there are consequences for those actions. ==== The reason why I brought up erroneous assumptions about economic behavior is that so much ideology is based upon these assumptions. It is assumed that human beings are rational, act in their own self-interest, are naturally democratic and will, if left to their own devices, create an efficient, highly functioning market driven society. If, however, these assumptions are wrong then humans, left to their own devices, will not create good societies. They will create hierarchical and tyrannical organizations. After all, that is what we have always had. ===== As for the animal kingdom, I don't think we have very good clues about how animals act. Whereas we used to think that the 'natural' beast was a loving, just creature we now consider that they murder, steal, cannibalize, wage war, rape and generally act as humans do. Besides, are humans like dogs or cats? Are we like eagles or starlings? Are we lions or tigers or, egads, bees? ===== How in the world is mandated education tyrannical when an educated, free-thinking populace is the best guard against tyranny? We're not talking about madrassas here which aren't 'educational' but are pure propaganda.
