The savings would be minimal. My gas mileage changes little from 55 to 70 mph. But when I am stuck in traffic and starting and stopping in the city, the mileage is awful.

The BIG problem we (that is all of us in North America but probably more so for Amercians) are going to have is ADMITTING that this is an issue. To admit this is to say that the all powerful nation has been weakened, that our freedom to go wherever we want by car, rail or plane will be or could be curtailed because we are not energy independent. The first politician to ring the bell on this issue will be the first to be hung out to dry. Just ask Jimmie Carter. Right now, we are just seeing the government provide 'hints' that energy is something we need to address but we are certainly not educating the public on the need to conserve, etc. Human history tells us that we will do nothing until the crisis hits.
