JF, just a nitpick, but I think a large part of "atheists" in Asia are actually non-practicing Buddhists.

Of course, that assumes that you take on the strictest definition of "atheism." Oh well, it's all labels anyway, convenient for statistics.

Just for your information, guys: Shinto alone recognizes and pays tribute to 800 or possibly 8 million Gods. If 800 or 8 million is still subject to interpretation.
In Japanese: "yao-yourozu-no-kami".

You guys can't beat that one, right?

By the way, the Japanese being quite pragmatic people pray to each of their Shinto kami-dana (shrine) and Buddah budzu-dan at home. They have both. And to make sure they don't miss out on something, they mostly prefer to marry Christian.

Who said the Japanese are atheists???
