America suffered 2,500 casualties at Omaha. One for every ten feet of beachfront.

It was a slaughter worthy of Grant. So many things were done wrong it is hard to assign blame.

I dont know how to exactly word this but it is a result of the mark felt/dick nixon debates of last week. Here it goes.
As i have said to you both publicly and privately, your service is greatly appreciated by this citizen. I expect you to know however that in fighting for the freedom of all americans, you can not expect citizens to give up their rights just because it is wartime. Between the stark " please dont publish that article because troops will die reason" and all the weaker shades of gray ones, we have a lot to consider.
On this thread and in the non-main st. media, Folks who were opposed to nixon were blamed for the holocaust in cambodia as well as the loss of vietnam along with deaths of at least hundreds of thousands there. And all this because we didnt want a president not who just cover upped but who created a culture that had president protection uber alles. Was it wortwhile to bring down this culture--perhaps fewer lives were to be saved by bringing nixon down. But perhaps there would have been events in the future if the actions of the nixon whitehouse had gone unchecked that we will never know of? It is history now. There was and is malice on both sides but what is very clear to me is that no one's patriotism is at issue whichever side of Mark Felt we fall on or whatever side of vietnam we fall on. There are some out there that root for our enemies but the bulk of the opposition, perhaps not the loudest part of the opppostion, should not have their loyalty questoned because of their opinions.
That goes for iraq as well. No supporter of this war on this thread and that includes me expected the situation 2-2.5 years down the road to be so fluid and the results so mixed. Mike

<<America suffered 2,500 casualties at Omaha. One for every ten feet of beachfront.>>

Gunny Ermay did an hour on D-Day on the History Channel this morning. That Mail Call will be repeated this evening.
