This is a highly risky strategy though I understand that IBM wasn't able to deliver low power laptop chips.

As Rien says, one would be nuts to buy a Mac now. Hardware sales are going to tank. This might be the biggest challenge Apple ever faced.

I remember when Osborne computers went bankrupt and out of business due to cash flow problems caused by hordes of customers waiting for the new machine (with a 9" versus 5" display). Adam Osborne should have kept his trap shut a tad longer.
