re: JF, there's a difference between understanding and "understanding." Oh, you mean sympathize. No, I suppose that's not helpful to any war effort. If you thought of them as just like your kid or your brother, only from a different culture and with a different perspective, then it would be hard to find people to conduct a war. But don't worry, we (and everybody else that has conducted a war) has no problem demonizing the enemy. We've fought the Gooks, the Japs, the Krauts, many others. Seems we're friends with them now, but that doesn't mean that they were not pure evil when we were fighting them. And it's also different this time, these really are the bad guys. I always hated those evil Sunnis. John
