The percentage of people who are not Muslim in the ME is a small one. There is an undisputed culture of violence there. Who says its undisputed? There is very little violence in ME countries outside of Iraq and Palestine. And in fact, Iraq and Palestine are a very small part of the ME. You rarely hear of violence in countries like Jordan, Egypt, Iran, Syria, Morroco, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. They may not be democracies and they may be very poor but don't confuse a lack of freedom and poverty with violence. I think its very telling that the greatest ME violence is where the two cultures, West and ME, are meeting.Even the Arab newspapers and Al Jazeera debate about this culture of violence and its impact on Arab culture. They themselves don't deny it. Why do you? I have never denied that Muslims will resort to violence that is revolting to western sensibilities. And it IS shocking.....their use of bodies as ammo. There use of 15 year old kids in the fighting. However, I recognize that part of their response is due to poverty. They do not have the resources to command the kind of armies that the US and Israel command. Therefore, they resort to things we would never permit.......like suicide bombings. Its like when the colonists revolted against King George........they were not adverse to letting their Indian allies take the scalps of the Brits. You fight with what you have. As far as sleeping giants, the U.S. was the sleeping giant. The Muslim extremists were already at war with us and we just didn't notice it. We notice it now, though, and are tackling it head on. LOL. Yeah, well if we were sleeping, then we were doing a lot of sleep walking. How can you suggest that we were sleeping in the ME. Our big fat nose has been moving in ME circles since 1948 when Israel became a country thanks to American political pressure. And you know what.......we are a completely different kind of giant. One that is not nearly as dangerous as the ME one.As far as ME people being inherently violent, I don't think they are any less human than us. However, I do believe that if you grow up with hate propaganda pumped into your brain night and day by everyone you admire, then you will grow up to hate as well. Look at the culture of slavery in the South. They weren't bad people on the whole, but they were just raised to believe slavery was natural. Same thing in the ME. They believe suicide bombing is part of their religion and that violence is the primary means to an end, because that is what they are taught day and night. Those are the plain, unadulterated facts. I think we agree a bit on this, but you don't seem to be acknowledging that. The ME has been conquered over and over and over again. When you are constantly confronted with violence and never allowed to control your resources and destiny, you tend to get violent. And that's as true with Westerners [see N. Ireland] as people in the ME. For over a century, Westerners have screwed with Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon and a few others. Countries like Algeria that were given their freedom early on went through a period of violence. Eventually, the violence ebbs and slowly living conditions begin to improve. Few ME countries are in a good place economically and politically, but things are getting better slowly. Its the nature of the area. Its not uncommon for countries of southern[read warm] latitudes to move more slowly than ones located in cooler climes. That does not mean they will not get to where they are going some day.
