Look. Say your great grandparents are from Latvia. Say every May 21 which is the date Latvia became free in 1918 you celebrate Latvian independence day. You get with other Latvian Americans and dress up in native dress from 18th century and eat Latvian meatballs and cookies and do Latvian dances. That's celebrating one's heritage.

The Confederate flag is also about independence but its an independence that tore this country in two and led to 5 years of fighting between brother and brother, cousin and cousin and is some cases, father and son. From where I come, that kind of heritage is best left to the history books. Comprendez?
