Ted, like I said before, it will take at least two generations before Europeans start thinking of themselves as Europeans first and Frenchmen/Englishmen/Germans/Dutch second.

Just look at the "Confederacy," for example. ;-)

Likewise, the United Nations has 190+ member-states, a General Assembly, a UN Charter that states must sign as a condition for membership. Most UN members share a common currency, the US$. Hence my suggestion to rechristen the EU the UNE, ie the United Nations of Europe.
