I agree on much of what you say. I'm remembering, plans being changed to prevent raiders from coming in and steeling money from over funded plans. You still have to deal with old line companies such as GM and big steel. The process to make cars and many other manufactured items has improved through automation, and outsourcing. A lot of former big steel companies have already been given to the Govt. pension guarantee. I think the business trend has been to eliminate pension plans and establish 401k plans. This to alleviate the cost of traditional plans. Kind of like what's being proposed to the SS system. Your in charge of your retirement plan.
