Glass half empty rather than half full ?

What I was trying to say was that the real wealth of a nation is measured by the knowledge and productivity of its people and paper wealth may not be a very good way of keeping score.

Germany and Japan after WWI were in ruin, yet the knowledge possessed by their people and willingness to work made it much easier for them to gain material and paper wealth.

Similarly here, if the dollar were to totally collapse, it would only cause a momentary dislocation. Of course I wouldn't want to see that happen. A lot of people would suffer terribly (including me), but in the overall scheme of things we would probably recover very quickly and be stronger than ever.
