I agree. Italian wines between $15 and $40 are superb. Almost any Chianti Classico in the $15 to $25 is a bargain; and the Barolos near $40 are usually fantastic. Very safe buying those in those price ranges.

Same price range in French wines? Hit and miss. Even American wines are more dependable.
