C2, So what's your strategy? Besides taking an active role in raising interest rates (which will have the obverse impact of attracting more foreign capital) to push savings, are you proposing we behave like Asia and build an export based command economy? Or do you want European style command economies with 10%+ unemployment? I do not argue that everything is fine - free trade is good, but predatory exporters do exist (witness the Japanese Motorcycle companies in the 80's attempting to kill off European and American manufacturers). And I agree immigration can be a problem, but fading demographics are far worse. The trick is to not get too married to ideas such as balancing trade and capital - that leads to the dark side of economics -> command economies. John
